Night-time Fun with Kids this Summer Holiday

It’s summer and it’s the festive season: the happiest time of year for families! It’s a time of year where cameras get dusted off and memories are made, when love abounds and laughter winks in every eye.  

There are so many fun activities and events to take part in around Cape Town during this month, most of which occur during the day. This, however, does not mean that families need to rush home, panic-stricken, with the threat of their magical family fun, spell disappearing when the clock strikes 18:00. Luckily, there are night-time activities in our beautiful city too! Here they are: 

1. Howl at the moon during a Full-Moon Picnic  

This monthly family-friendly picnic, held at full moon, is hosted by the Afrikaans Language Monument in aid of “Let’s Read”, the Language Museum’s reading project for children. Get there early to take part in the educational tour of the monument and enjoy the magical sunset views and mesmerising night scenes over the Paarl valley.

2. See an outdoor family movie 

Remember the excitement of going to the drive-in as a kid? Create those same magical memories with your children during Galileo’s Family Sundays held every Sunday during the school holidays at the Kelvin Grove Club. Expect a night of family cuddles under the stars while watching a classic movie, a kiddies playland with jumping castles, face painters, games and more, as well as a variety of delicious treats.

3. Sway to the music during a Summer Sunset Concert 

The much-anticipated and much-loved Kirstenbosch Summer Sunsets Concerts series is back and this year we have the fantastic opportunity to see Yusuf Cat Stevens, live! The star-studded line-up also includes Texas, Goldfish, The Vamps, Matthew Mole and MiCasa, to name a few. Pack a picnic basket, enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings of the "most beautiful garden in Africa" and be transported into the wonderful world of music.

4. Enjoy a 360° panoramic view of the Mother City
