There’s something about the dreary days of late January to early February that have me wishing time would speed up. Which is probably why I’m already thinking ahead to Valentine’s Day.

First last week’s Valentine’s Day bark and now this Valentine’s Day Wreath.

It’s easy to make this Ribbon wreath and of course you could swap out the ribbon colors and wreath shape and make this ribbon wreath for any occasion.

How to make a ribbon wreath

You’ll need:

• Wire wreath frame (I used a heart frame)*
• Lots of ribbon (I used about 60 yards)*
• Scissors
• Ruler or measuring tape

Cut your ribbon into about 20 inch strips. It’s easiest if you determine your pattern and lay out your strips in this pattern. I used 5 different ribbon colors. Keeping an odd number meant that the pattern would alternate between inside and out (first set: glitter ribbon was on the outside, second: glitter was on the inside, and so on). I’d suggest either using an odd number of different ribbons or you could always use all the same ribbon and then you don’t have to worry about it.

Take your first strand of ribbon and thread it under the inner and middle wires.

Make a loop with each side of the ribbon.

Tie in a simple knot.

Thread the next strand under the middle and outer wires, making the two loops and tying a knot.

You’ll slide the bows together and continue, alternating between tying the bows on the two inner wires and the outer.

*I push my bows really close together because I like a super full look. But in all honesty, you don’t have to push them as close together as I did – your wreath will still look pretty and you’ll use less ribbon.

I took a lot of breaks while I was making this wreath because my kids are home for a long weekend and because I needed to go back to buy more ribbon so it’s hard for me to say exactly how long this took. Probably about 3 hours or so, though once you get the hang of it, you’re pretty much on autopilot so put on a movie or binge watch a show while you make your ribbon wreath.

When you’re working on your final section of your wreath, especially your last few bows, you might want to get someone to hold the ribbon from the touching section back so you can more easily tie it.

Once you’re done tying on your bows, you can play around with them, fluffing out the “ears” of your bows or moving the tails to where you want them to be. If there are any tails that are too long that you don’t like the look of, trim them.

Thread a ribbon through the back of the wire frame to hang from your door.

You can also get some sort of accent piece to hang in the middle of your wreath. I’m thinking of adding a glittery red heart in the middle of mine.

One last note: I ended up really liking how the glittery ribbon looked in my wreath but it is stiffer and harder to work with. Plus, it came on shorter rolls so I needed more of it. Not to mention that there is now glitter all over my work space…and pretty much all over my house since it tends to go everywhere. I don’t regret using it, but I might skip it for the next wreath I make.
