Jersey City’s Box Colony Theatre (BCT) is at it again – same play, larger stage.

BCT’s Beckett-inspired absurdist comedy Is That Danny DeVito? And Other Questions From West of the Hudson will be performed as part of the New York International Fringe Festival at the WOW Cafe (59-61 E 4th St. #4 – between 2nd Avenue & Bowery, NYC) on select dates throughout August.

Produced in collaboration with Art House Productions in October of 2015, Is That Danny DeVito? focuses on the psychological non-adventures of two over-educated but under-employed millennials as they wait for a perpetually delayed bus to deliver them from their New England campsite to their beloved Garden State. As they wait, Dusty (Julian Gordon) and Geoff (Finn Kilgore) pass the time with the help of bizarre locals (Natasha Edwards & Carlo Fiorletta) and conversations on topics ranging from the millennial experience to celebrity culture, pop entertainment, literature, New Jersey, and whether or not a man unseen to the audience is Danny DeVito.

“From its conception, the play was intended for a local audience,” says playwright and lifelong New Jersey resident Alexander Doyle. “It was always important to try to make sure that locals had an opportunity to work on the project. and we made a concerted effort to reach out to actors and other theater artists in the area.”

Jersey City talent includes the playwright, Alexander Janosek Doyle, resident since 2010. Doyle also attended high school at St. Peter’s Prep, and workshopped this play with other Jersey City writers and actors as part of Art House Productions INKubator program. He is also an English teacher at Dickenson High School.

Director, Amanda Levie, is another Jersey City resident who has done significant work in Jersey City with her own sensory-based theater company, No Peeking Theatre.

Production designer, Joe Velez, is an art teacher at The Jersey City Art School and has had his art displayed at numerous galleries in Jersey City.

Actor and Jersey City resident Carlo Fiorletta has performed in this and other BCT productions, as well as works with Levie’s No Peeking Theatre. Additionally his credits include Dan (lead male) in Detours (now in festivals), Available: A Modern Day Fairy Tale, and Surviving Family (now on Amazon Prime).

The Box Colony Theatre positions itself as a company both composed of and created for the community. “We are extremely grateful for the support we’ve received from the local community. Is That Danny DeVito? was originally co-produced by the wonderful team at Art House Productions, and even before that was developed with the assistance of many talented Jersey City-based writers and actors as part of the Art House INKubator. Several members of the production team and cast were scouted from the talent of this phenomenal workshop,” Doyle tells JCI.
