No Budget for Holidays? Have a Holiday in the UK!

Holidays near to home have become a big thing in the past three or four years. After all, a pandemic has kept us locked at home, and Brexit and the current cost of living can make foreign travel very difficult.

Some people use the term staycation to describe holidaying in the UK. I prefer to use that term for holidaying in your own home town, but whatever you choose to call it, a holiday in the UK can be a pleasant change from a trip abroad. Travelling around some of the best destinations the UK has to offer is a lot of fun, and the best news of all? It tends to be super cheap too! With that in mind, here are some ideas for affordable staycations that you won’t regret planning.

Visit the Lake District

The Lake District is great for Budget friendly holidays. It’s never going to cost you anything to spend some time by the water! And the visitor centres you can find out there tend to be free to enter as well, meaning the kids can have a free history lesson whilst you’re at it. As long as you pack a picnic, your own seats, or even your own tent, you won’t have to spend on anything you’re not planning to.

Bunk Down in a Tree House

Staying in a treehouse is a very novel thing. But there are various treehouse stays uk locations where you and the kids can sleep in style – in a forest and up a tree! Kids especially will love sleeping under the stars in a mini log cabin. Whether they have a treehouse at home or not, it’s going to be a super fun way to bunk down at night after exploring a village, town, or city all day long.

Walk the Jurassic Coast

The Jurassic Coast can be found along the southernmost part of Dorset and Devon. That’s over 90 miles of ancient coast that’s not all that much different from the way it would have looked a few million years ago. If you’re a fan of dinosaurs, fossil hunting, or you just love a beach, this is definitely the destination for you. Spend some time walking or hiking it, or putting your swimming costumes on and dipping into the water. Just keep an eye on beach safety warnings and make sure you pack a towel or two!

Step Back in Time in Bath

Bath is a cultural centre in the UK. You can step back in time when you enter the city, park the car, and use park and ride facilities to get around for the rest of the day. A lot of the Roman features that used to make up the city can still be seen and visited; most of all, you can see the ancient Roman Baths up close and personal – just make sure you don’t actually get into the water! There are a lot of activities for kids here as well, especially if they love dressing up like an ancient centurion or a Celtic warrior, in one place.

If you don’t have a big holiday budget, destinations like those above will pack out your days and cost little or nothing to spend some quality time in.
