The Crème De La Crème: Yako Beauty

It's definitely been a while since I've aired out my fro, alas my baby is still here and thriving, contrary to popular belief I don't wear wigs 24/7 and when I don't the humble tapered fro is my go to style. I've been trying out some styling cremes by Yako Beauty, I was sent Let’s Curl Up Defining Crème with Avocado Oil and Smoothing Oil-in-Crème with Macadamia Oil both products are for Curly hair types, Yako [meaning Yours or Belongs to You in Swahili] is a London based brand free from nasties such as Parabens and sulphates

Initially I didn't think this brand would be for me, a lot of the featured hair types on their social media had a much looser curl pattern than myself, but i'm a sensible consumer so a tailored the products to my [4C] needs. Out of the two products Let’s Curl Up Defining Crème worked best for my hair, I used it to set my twist out on damp hair I applied from near [but not on my scalp] root to tip, and two strand twisted my hair and left it over night.

Let’s Curl Up Defining Crème has a little hold so it was great at defining my curls it is on the sticky side however once dried hair is not stiff  like say if you used a gel on its own, it's flexible and left no residue especially as I fluff out my twist a lot. It's one of the best products I've used for holding my twist out without being at all crunchy. Let’s Curl Up Defining Crème is a mix of moisturizing creme and gel, I've long since been using this combination for my wash and go with this product its doing the job for you . Let’s Curl Up Defining Crème will work to define your wash and go and define YOUR natural curl pattern IT'S NOT GOING TO GIVE YOU ANYTHING YOU DON'T ALREADY HAVE!  Key ingredients include  Avocado oil, Honey, Horsetail and Nettle extracts

Smoothing Oil-in-Crème with Macadamia Oil, is more of an everyday moisturizer and can be used on wet damp or dry hair, this product again can be used for twist outs but with less hold so will give a softer finish. The main use of this product is taming and fighting frizz it didn't really do that for me this product did however work wonders on Freyas's hair as a daily moisturizer, due to her being a kid and all, her hair gets very tangled [I send my child to pre school coiffed to perfection and she comes back to me like she has been on a night out with a couple of drag queens......glitter and sand everywhere!] so this product is ideal for softening her hair with minimal stress and effort. It's fine to use on children over 3 years old too.

The products will definitely work for most people, and can be used for all curl types, the price is £19.99 the products are multi tasking so you get your moneys worth in terms of ways to use the products. My only issue is marketing of the product, as the brand states it does indeed work for most curl  types, however looking at their social media and website I wouldn't really think so, there needs to be some representation of tighter coiled kinky hair so that those with that textures much like my own don't pass it up as 'not for them' as it's actually a good line. The Let’s Curl Up Defining Crème with Avocado Oil is now on my re buy list! learn more about Yako Beauty here
