6 Ways to Enjoy the Snow with Your Kids

Tags: snow kid

I don’t always enjoy the snow, but when you live in an area that will most likely see an inch or two, it’s always a good idea to make the most of it. We landed some pretty good snowfall over the past couple of days, actually. To the point that my son asked when it would stop. “I know son, I know…” is all I could think, but it also sparked this post.

For those who like to play in the snow, here are some innovative ideas that go beyond the traditional snowman and snow angels. Enjoy!

6 Ways to Enjoy the Snow with Your Kids

Most of these ideas can be done with a little, or a lot, of snow. It’s the main ingredient needed so as long as you have snow – you can do these activities.

Tie-Dye Snow Art

As a mom, you most likely have everything needed for this activity already. It’s only markers and water. That’s it. First, have your kids draw a picture in the snow. There will be some bleeding of the marker, so encourage them to leave some space in what they draw. Then, take a spray bottle with dial set on a slightly strong spritz setting and spray the picture. In just a matter of seconds, the drawing will grow into a enhanced version of what your child drew!

Make a snow road.

If you have boys, they’ll love this activity. Have them grab their favorite trucks and cars and head outdoors. Challenge them to create a monster truck road (or give them a boost by shoveling a path).

Make a snow volcano.

Snow, vinegar, baking soda, and food coloring is all you need to make a snow volcano. If you have multiple kids, let each one of them pick a color and make rainbow volcanos. You’ll have the most decorative snowy yard on the street.

Play Mr. Potato Head with snowballs.

The harder the snow, the better this game will be, but it’s also fun to have fluffy snow explode in your face if you’re on the receiving end. This is a game for any age and can be played as long as there is snow!

Make maple syrup taffy.

grab your maple syrup and a gallon of fresh snow for this yummy recipe. This is something your kids will enjoy doing as much as eating!

Build snow sculptures.

Challenge your kids to build different kinds of snow sculptures. Give the younger ones a head start by having them use a Barbie or G.I. Joe as their sculpture “mold.”

Final Thoughts

Try these activities with your kids for a snowy good time. Take lots of pictures and build memories that will last a lifetime. These can also be used to make a few traditions… and don’t forget to have a nice cinnamon mocha latte to end a freezing good time!
