Have a plan of action

With a household full of kids, we’ve learned how extremely important it is to plan things out and have a plan of action. Before doing anything, we have a detailed plan so that there’s no chaos. No kids arguing, no forgetting to do something until last minute, and no chaos breaking out. Not everyday is perfect, but having a plan in place helps with keeping our home nice and orderly.

We have daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly cleaning lists. It includes a checklist so we can mark things off as they get done. This keeps us from skipping chores or being confused about who’s responsible for what task. Having this plan really helps us out when it comes to keeping our home under control with as little mess and clutter as possible.

As soon as we slack on the plan and get disorganized, the house can turn into a total disaster. It’s very important that we have an organized plan and we stick to it.

Keep on top of it

While having a plan really helps us as a Family, it does not prevent the mess on its own. We still have to keep on top of everyday messes. If someone grabs a snack, they need to throw away any dishes or trash. If we drag out toys and games to play in the family room, they need to be put back after we are done playing.

Every adult and school-aged child in the household is responsible for picking up after themselves in order to stay on top of the mess and keep it from becoming a complete disaster. The younger kids get a little help, but we still encourage teaching them how to eventually learn to pick up after themselves once they are to that age.

By keeping on top of our daily messes, this helps to eliminate what needs to be done throughout the day in terms of cleaning chores. With our Big Family, keeping down on messes and clutter is an absolute must!

Include everyone

While having a big family like ours means we have more mess to clean up, it also means we have more people to help pitch in and get things cleaned up faster than if we only had a few helping hands. We make absolute sure to include everyone in the chores and cleaning duties. The smaller kids need a little bit of help, but we like to use that as a learning opportunity so we can guide them to become independent as they get older.

With keeping everyone involved, we really cut down on the amount of mess we have in our home. With all these kids and our big family, it can get really messy really fast! There’s so many dishes, clothes, and toys that can pile up that is next to impossible to tackle on your own. We try and stay organized, keep on top of it, and keep everyone involved the best we can.
