I just got back from a two-week stay in Marystown, Newfoundland, where an old high school friend and her relatives put me up and offered me a taste of that proverbial Atlantic hospitality.
It was an uneventful trip, just the way I wanted it to be. Marystown is a quiet town – about 5,000 inhabitants, many of whom work in the Shipyard or in fishing. Much of the socializing and day-to-day activities tend to gravitate towards what some jokingly refer to as the “community center”, ie Peninsula Mall, a shopping center situated near the town’s centre.
Needless to say, even if the parochial proximity takes time to get used to, it was a much needed respite from the noise, pollution and other aggravating elements that come with living in the GTA.
Here are a few pictures of Marystown:
I promised myself that I’d start being a little more active on Metro Mamma once I got back. There’s lots of baby-related stuff I’ve been wanting to share with you, it’s just been such a hectic end-of-year that I’ve had to put quite a few of my projects on the back-burner. 2017 should be easier (knock on wood), so expect to be hearing from me soon.
