Madhuri Dixit-Nene is truly a role model for ageing gracefully! Past 50, she still retains her youthful looks and glows with good Health. While a strict exercise regimen (which includes Kathak) is part of her routine, she also has a healthy diet, taking care of what she eats and nurturing her body. We took a look at her Instagram account, for inspiration to eat healthy!

Japanese Cuisine

Like other health enthusiasts, Madhuri’s jumping on the Japanese cuisine bandwagon. With the Health Benefits of tofu, assorted veggies and mushrooms, she’s getting in high quality protein (the soy in tofu also balances heart health and blood pressure), as well as iron, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. What’s more, the Japanese usually eat their food poached, grilled, baked, steamed or stir-fried, with several health benefits.

Tea

Take a break from kadak chai once in a while, and have some herbal teas, all designed to equip the body with several health benefits. Choose a decaf infusion of leaves, seeds, roots and herbs that suits your need. Peppermint tea is great for gas and nausea, while ginger tea cures a cold and prevents cancer. Chamomile tea helps with insomnia, while Roobios tea is rich in Vitamin C, has antioxidants and combats ageing. Dandelion tea is a liver cleanser (great for hangovers!), while hibiscus tea is good for people with high blood pressure.

Coconut Water

Madhuri’s ‘Monday essential’ is coconut water, which is truly nature’s magic formula for all ills. This low-cal sweet nectar found in young coconuts, aids in weight loss and boosts metabolism. It replenishes lost electrolytes – and has been found to be as effective is IV in some cases! It is fibre-rich, aids digestion, and reduces acid reflux. It hydrates the body from within, and is also rich in potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorous and a small amount of sodium.

Fruits and vegetables

Fruits and vegetables are topmost on Madhuri’s list of groceries, and why not? The one important benefit that they have to offer is that they are not processed, unlike other foods. So the nutrients are pure and unadulterated. Half your plate should be heaped with fruits and veggies at every meal, to reap the benefits like vitamins, minerals, fibre and antioxidants. Use different coloured veggies – orange (carrots, pumpkins) for beta carotene, deep red (tomatoes) for lycopene and so on. Load up on greens like broccoli and spinach, and fruits like pears, apples, grapes, grapefruit and avocado.
