Want that Kareena-like pregnancy glow? Ditch those cosmetics and go ‘desi’!

Pregnancy is the most beautiful phase in any woman’s life. Motherhood is a period all women cherish the most and during this time their bodies go through a whole lot of biological changes, making them compromise on their beauty routines. Our mums and grandmums did not stop us from waxing, facial and pedicure for no reason, after all!

However, this does not mean you remain in sartorial wilderness all though the nine months. These simple beauty tips will not only make you look good, but will also let you feel relaxed and pampered irrespective of the morning sickness, swollen ankles and sleepless nights.

1.    Read your beauty product’s composition

This is utmost important, especially when you are pregnant. Since there is a new life growing inside you, anything you eat or put on your Skin has a direct effect on your baby. Chemicals like accutane, tetracycline, topical salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide are the ones which should be avoided. Chances are, your skin might become more sensitive during pregnancy. So, some of the chemicals which suited you before might no longer be good for you. So, before you jump in joy and slather your favourite foundation, read the composition or even better, consult your doctor.

2.    Go all natural!

There is nothing better than sticking to natural, homemade remedies. And even then, don’t listen to your neighbours, friends or your FB mom groups. Every woman’s skin is different and can react differently. So, pick only what suits your skin. Curd, milk, haldi, wheat flour, rice flour, rose water, aloe vera, and besan are all extremely safe and will not do any harm to you and your unborn baby. Never forget that what you apply on your skin eventually goes into your body through your blood stream.

3.    Don’t fret about that pregnancy glow!

So, you saw Kareena Kapoor’s skin glowing during pregnancy and you are wondering why yours isn’t? Well, let me tell you, that needs to be the last thing you must fret about. Pregnancy hormones react differently for different women. While for some it leaves a glow like never before, for few others it can be a big pain. Redness, itching, blotchy skin, acne and puffiness are all common during pregnancy. So, in case you are trying to slather that foundation to hide your problematic spots, don’t do so. Instead, opt for a light moisturizer or a simple powder. Remember, this is not a permanent thing!

4.    Focus on your best assets

Your skin, hair and your body might all go through a roller coaster of changes during pregnancy. Weight gain is absolutely normal during pregnancy. So embrace it with grace, instead of fighting to cover up your problematic areas. You could opt for smart solutions like throwing on a strand or two on either side of your face to cover up your double chin, highlight your eyes and attract all attention towards it or put on a nose pin if you have a sharp nose, to distract attention from your heavy areas.

5.    Try some tricks

It is obvious for your face to look fuller in the mornings during pregnancy. The best way to battle this is by using some simple makeup tricks. Highlight the apples of your cheeks, use a darker shade of blush right under your cheekbone, or simply throw in a bright coloured lipstick! Viola! You have done the cover-up thing!
