Bigfoot Field Research Update
This is a research update from my adventures out in the wilds of the eastern Kentucky mountains. This is from two different days. The dates are August the 12th and 19th. This post may turn out to be larger than some of my other research updates, as I want to share more pictures and give more details.
This post will also include two short videos.
I will keep the days in sequence and start with the 12th.
On the 12th, I got an early start as I knew the temperature were to get into the 90's and the humidity would be off the charts. On this particular morning I was rather frustrated due to some work related things. So, my attitude was probably not the best.
I was in the woods at a little after 9am. My first stop was to my gifting area. What some of you may not know is that I have really stepped up my efforts on the gifting front. I have been making videos and taking pictures. I have not shared this part of the research publicly but plan on sharing it at a later date. There has been some interesting things happen that will be discussed later in some form or another.
After I was done at the gifting area, I proceeded to go to my second area of the day. It was already getting hot and I was still flustered over some of the work related stuff. I tend to work a lot with publishing books and films. This can sometime be very frustrating for me with all the technical hoops I have to jump through, but overall I enjoy it.
I had previously set up a game camera in this second area. This area has been pretty active over the years for me but I normally only get into it a few times a year. This year I have been in it very often and have had some success. There are some steep hills to climb but if you are in this part of the world, steep hills are part of the job description. One other thing I want to share before getting to the video, is that due to my work stress, I chose to remove the game camera from the area. I had not planned on going back in there for a while, so I removed it. Also for some reason the date got off on the game cam.Here is the video from that day. It is short and after it I will talk about the outing on the 19th.
As you can probably tell from the video my frustration was showing. Spider webs are just part of the journey but on this day it was about to make me scream. I can laugh about it now but at the time I was ready to throw down with every spider in town.
Now, let us look at the 19th. This was a special and rare day for me. It was rare in the sense that I actually was not alone. Normally, I go out by myself and rarely have anyone with me. But on this day my wife finally got a chance to get out there with me, so that is special. My wife, Robin, does have some interest in Bigfoot and exploring but for the last year or so she just has not had the free time to go hiking with me.
We started out early in an effort to beat the heat and humidity. We had previously had several days of rain so any tracks would be fresh. Our first stop was the gifting area. While there we documented and left out some new goodies. Then it was on to our second area of the day.
Anytime I'm in the mountains, it is not just all about bigfoot. While bigfoot evidence and documentation is the prime objective, I want to also enjoy other aspect of nature and wildlife. It makes my time, and in this case our time, out in the woods more enjoyable. There are always new things to see and discover.
My wife tends to take more picture of plants than I do but we both keep and eye out for nature's beauty.
Now, I would like to further talk about what I think was a young wolf or coywolf track that I found. I know it is hard for some to phantom but I have reason to believe we have some wolves in our general area. I have found some tracks that are much larger than the one I found on the 19th.
Some told me this was a dog track and that there was no wolves in Kentucky. But this is just not true. In 2013 a grey wold was killed in Hart county Kentucky. This was DNA tested by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Wildlife Research Center in Colorado and it came back as a grey wolf. The massive wolf weighed 73 pounds. There was also the re-introduction of red wolves in this area years ago and then rumors of a more recent release. Then we also have the hybrids in Kentucky that are a cross between a coyote and a wolf. The results are known as a Coywolf. All members of the genus Canis are closely genetically related with 78 chromosomes and therefore can interbreed. But I will not get into this any more on this post. If you like you can google for information. I also might, at some point, do a post about wolves in Kentucky with history and what not, but not today.
The wife and I enjoyed out time out in the mountains and it is always good to have her along with me. While it was hot and humid it was still a fun day. While on the trail we saw no evidence that any people had been in there after the hard rains. This area is gated and you have to walk on foot to explore it. It is about 2 miles in and out for a round trip of about 4 miles. All in all we logged roughly 6 miles that morning.
My wife took this picture of this beautiful bloomed plant. I had no idea what it was so I posted and ask on my Facebook page. I had some of my savvy friends know what the plant was called. It is called a Cardinal Flower. So I thank them for educating me on the plant. I also wanted to learn more about this plant so I researched it. The Cardinal Flowers are short-lived native perennial plants that have a wide range in North and Central America.They are a woodland plant, preferring shade. They are also moisture lovers. This one was in the shade and in a very wet area.By the end of the research day, we had explored and found one possible bigfoot track, a possible wolf track, some coyote tracks, deer tracks, an Eastern Newt, and numerous beautiful plants and trees. While we didn't see a bigfoot or make any earth shattering discoveries, it was a great time out in God's country and who could ask for anything more.
