RCM First Timers is the real, unfiltered perspective on what it’s like to work at RCM from our newest full time employees – a peak behind the curtain at Austin’s best advertising agency. RCM employees describe their work in their own words. 

Today, we hear from Tom, a content strategist.  

A wall-to-wall panel of glass lets me see the oaks out the window are sun-rapt on a Tuesday afternoon. The fridge is full, the coffee rich, and the people richer. It’s been a good reception during my early days at Rock Candy Media, and one that comforts me for the days and months ahead.

I’ve just moved back to Austin after years away and overseas, and the return has been mixed. Many of my favorite haunts are gone, but the city is more alive than it had ever been. Streets are full, homes are everywhere, people are grabbing for a bit of Austin to call theirs. And after some searching I’ve got a small piece with my name on it.

It isn’t a piece of Austin that has any regrets. In fact it’s enviable. One thing I always appreciated about this town was its capacity to care for its own, and the RCM way is not removed at all from that philosophy. Annie Cares Deeply about us, because she cares deeply about her clients. Her support isn’t transmutable either – it touches us all.

So when the workday becomes a slog, or the deadlines become tight, I have the environment I need to Remain Creative. It’s a dream absolutely to remain creative, and sometimes I can’t think I’ve been so lucky to land here. I enjoy working to create a clients image, to promote their brands, to build their business, and I am inspired by my teams devotion.  We do this for ourselves because we do this for others first.

Truly I wish that everyone could have this experience. It is possible after all, even at a bar, even at a bank, if only everyone could be surrounded by people such as I call my coworkers. Each day I feel taken care of, and I can provide for my wife in turn. We’re rescuing a dog soon. We’re in it for the long haul.
