6 Things We Need to Know Before Designing Your Website

Your company’s website is a valuable asset. Your website is the online front for site visitors. This is the way they learn about your products and services, find valuable information, and more.

This is why we need specific types of information to build a beautiful site for your Business. There’s a lot to consider. However, we understand it can be difficult for you explain the ideas you have about the site. So, we’ve put together some questions to help you make those important decisions for your new site.

1). What is the Purpose of the Website?

This is the first and most important question. If you’re not sure about the site’s purpose, there’s no way we can determine that. Without this information, it’s impossible to build an effective, valuable site.

So, before we get down to the nitty-gritty of what your site needs, ask these questions:

  • What does your business provide?
  • What types of products and/or services will need to be on the website?
  • What are your core values? (Examples: integrity, honesty, transparency, customer commitment, and more).
  • What is your company’s mission statement? (Should explain who/why of your company)

If you’re really stuck for ideas, then it can be helpful to visit the websites of competitors who are in your industry. Take a look at these pages:

  • About Us (May include company history, mission statement, core values, and more)
  • Services
  • FAQs (You can learn a lot about a company from this section)

By reviewing these pages, you’ll have a better idea of what might work for your business website. Make notes and write down any questions that come to mind.

2). Who is the Target Audience?

Target audience may sound like an intimidating term but all it means is “who is this website for?” It’s important to consider exactly who you want to reach with the website.

To figure out who the target audience is first take a look at your current customers. Look at their characteristics and create a list, which can then be used to create a profile for your customers. This can be done by collecting the demographic data of current customers through Google Analytics. You might even want to consider sending out customer surveys to find out who your customers are.

With this information, you’ll have a much better idea of who your website will need to target. This is the very information we need to make the new website fit your business, as well as make it appeal to current and potential customers.

3). Do Know About & Understand SEO?

If not, don’t worry! We’re here to help you with this process. However, this is another essential part of your website that we need to carefully consider before building the site. Just because you build a site and put it only doesn’t mean people will automatically find it. This is where SEO comes into play.

Search engines need to find specific information about your site in order to send site visitors. SEO is the key that helps Search Engines, such as Google, learn what your site is about. This is done through the use of keywords. Don’t be intimidated by this term. All it refers to are specific words, ideas, and content topics that are relevant to your business. These are also the words site visitors will use to find your site when using a search engine.

We will help you determine the keywords and how they should be used to attract your target audience. In fact, part of our work in building your site is based on what is called site optimisation, which is based on using keywords correctly in specific places on the website. Don’t worry—we’re here to help you with all of this!

4). What Type of Content Will You Require?

Content is another essential part of attracting the right people to your site. Why? Because content provides relevant information that site visitors need and want. Not only that, but it can also help with the site’s SEO efforts by helping search engines to see what the site is all about.

Content is also part of marketing your site online and naturally acquire high-quality backlinks. It also works to create internal links on your site between web pages. This helps visitors find additional information they may need.

And we can’t forget to mention that content is also important for offering a call to action (CTA) to your target audience. A CTA is something like an invitation to complete a specific action. This may be signing up for a newsletter, providing their email address to receive a freebie, make a purchase, and more.

Now you have a better idea of why content is so important to your website. You want to make sure to have relevant content that reaches out to the target audience. Again, we’re here to help you with this process.

5). How Many Pages Will the Site Need?

Each site is unique and will require a different number of pages to be effective. So, it’s helpful to consider the number of pages your site will need. You can start this process by creating a kind of map.

Use some paper or a drawing app, then sit down and map out all the pages that you believe the site will need. This is a great start, and we can help you finish this process. But we need your help in determining the types of pages your unique website will require.

6). What is Your Budget?

This is often the first question our clients ask, which is understandable. However, you’ll first need to determine the goal the website needs to fulfil. For example, will you need to have pages with products and product descriptions? Will you need a cart and checkout section? These are important considerations, which directly impact how much the website will cost.

Building a website is hard work; however, we’re here to help you with each step. Our goal is to build a beautiful, effective website that helps your business scale. You can help us by working through the questions and steps outlined above. And remember, we’re here to support throughout the entire process of building your beautiful new website.
