These steric recycling technologies are in demand all over the world

On average, about 70 million tons of waste are burned in Europe every year. The so-called mesh bars play a crucial role in this thermal recycling process. “It forms the platform where the waste is exposed to high temperatures and is eventually burned,” explains Maschinenfabrik Liezen und Gießerei (MFL). A process has been developed there – which according to the company is unique in this form – that makes it possible to recycle these mesh bars 100 percent. Demand is high across Europe, so MFL can point to reference projects in many major cities, from Hamburg to Berlin to Frankfurt and Vienna. Recently, waste incineration plants in Stockholm have also begun to rely on Lieze's know-how and use the services. It goes like this: During regular inspection periods – usually every six months – the old mesh bars are dismantled by the MFL and returned to Liezen in transport boxes. The study confirms that “the regeneration cycle begins in the foundry: approximately six tons of stainless steel per mesh rod is transformed into liquid metal in the electric arc furnace – in just 45 minutes – at a temperature of 1600 degrees Celsius.”
