Olympic champion Damian Warner wins eighth all-around title in Gotzes, with four Germans in the top ten

In the women's category, Dutchman Anouk Vetter achieved victory with 6,642 points, ahead of Swiss Annick Kalin (6,506 points) and American Michelle Atherley (6,465 points). Thus both Kalin and Vetter met the Olympic standard of 6,480 points.

The men's competition was much closer. In the decathlon, behind leading Olympic champion Damien Warner, the gap between the next six athletes was just 86 points heading into the 1500 metres. However, European Championship runner-up Simon Ehmer, who was slightly injured, will no longer participate, meaning the remaining result is still open.

Finally, Canadian Warner was victorious in Gotzis for the eighth time – with 8,678 points. Dutchman Sven Rosen came in second place, ahead of Johannes Erem from Estonia. In the top ten decathlons, three Germans finished in sixth place, led by Tim Novak, who set a new best of 8,282 points.

Felix Walter took seventh place. “The first day was okay. When I was warming up for the jumping competitions, I thought: ‘Now this is actually happening.’ But I couldn’t pull it off yet.” Nils Laseric finished his decathlon in an unexpectedly strong ninth place and with a personal best of 8,146 points.
