After the Iran attack: Airlines cancel their flights

The Iranian air attack on Israel that began last night led to the cancellation of several flights on the Austrian Lufthansa subsidiary AUA. The night Flight from Vienna to Tel Aviv, OS 859, was supposed to take off at 11:10 p.m., but was postponed to 6:40 a.m. However, it will likely not be implemented due to the closure of Israeli airspace, meaning passengers on the return flight (Tel Aviv-Vienna, OS 860) are stuck in Israel for the time being.

As AUA spokeswoman Sophie Matkowitz confirmed to aviation magazine Australian Wings, AUA will also close the destinations Amman (Jordan) and Erbil (Kurdish province in Iraq) until at least April 15. “The safety of our guests and crews is always our top priority,” Matkowitz stressed. Therefore, flights to Tehran were suspended yesterday.

Lufthansa flights have also been diverted

According to Reuters news agency, the Lufthansa Group is suspending all its flights to Amman, Beirut, Erbil and Tel Aviv until at least tomorrow. In addition, all Lufthansa Group flights will fly around the airspace over Israel, Jordan and Iraq until further notice, the company also announced upon request. Flights that were already in the air last night were redirected to new routes.

According to the information, Lufthansa had already decided on Friday to fly around Iranian airspace until Thursday, thus temporarily suspending flights to Tehran. Night flights to Tel Aviv have also been suspended for the coming nights as a precaution.

Emirates Airlines from Dubai is also canceling some flights. A company spokesperson announced that others would be redirected. The situation is being closely monitored and every effort is being made to keep the impact on customers as low as possible.
