The Pope spoke with Romanian Prime Minister Ciulacu

Francis spoke with Romanian Prime Minister Ion Marcel Ciulacu about relations between the Vatican and the Eastern European country. After the papal audience on Thursday morning, Ciolaco met as usual with Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin and Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations.

Pope Francis has warned young people and families in Romania against the spirit of division. He said that the Holy Spirit embraces differences and unites them in diversity.

The “friendly discussions” in the State Secretariat focused primarily on strengthening high-level relations between the Holy See and Romania and on the possibilities of further strengthening bilateral cooperation for the benefit of the Romanian people, especially in the field of education. The Vatican press office later announced this.

A number of topics of common interest and substantive importance were then discussed, including the conflict in Israel, Palestine and Ukraine, the reception of immigrants and refugees, and the prospects for expanding the European project.
