In the game from developer Team NINJA (including Nioh and Ninja Gaiden) you embody Ronin – a masterless samurai – during the final days of the Tokugawa Shogunate. As a nameless warrior, players explore the vast world of Japan in the late Edo period in the mid-19th century and hold the fate of the nation in their hands.
In the first of several “behind the scenes” videos, the developers provide exclusive insights into the game's creation and the historical background of the story. The Bakamatsu era sees Japan at a turning point between tradition and modernity – and the ronin play a crucial role in this. The story of Rise of the Ronin takes players to the cities of Yokohama, Edo (present-day Tokyo), and the ancient imperial city of Kyoto. These three major cities offer a blend of traditional Japanese beauty and emerging Western culture. Ronin has various tools at his disposal, such as the throwing anchor and the “Avicula” glider, to dynamically traverse the game world.
