The Emmy Awards are four months late

Tags: award emmy series

Four months later than scheduled, the Emmy Awards, which were actually scheduled to be held in September last year, will be presented today (5pm local time, 2:00 CET). The reason for the postponement of the most important television Award in the world was the double blow of writers and actors that paralyzed Hollywood.

And now in Los Angeles, a family saga about a threatened media empire is the front-runner in the awards race in key categories: the social satire “Succession” led the way this year with 27 nominations. Winning the first category for “Best Drama Series” is considered very likely, as the Series also achieved success at the Golden Globe Awards a week ago.

Video game “The Last of Us” (24 nominations) and luxury tourism satire “The White Lotus” (23 nominations) are also hoping to pick up awards. Cast nominees include stars such as Daniel Radcliffe, Jessica Chastain and Kevin Hart.

A large portion has already been taken

The celebratory evening at the Peacock Theatre, hosted by actor Anthony Anderson (“Black-ish”), will present awards in just 26 major categories. The Television Academy presented awards in 98 other categories last weekend.

Creative Emmy winners include “The Last of Us” with eight, followed by the soccer documentary series “Welcome to Wrexham” with five Emmys. Four awards went to restaurant chain “The Bear,” the “Addams Family” spin-off series “Wednesday,” “The White Lotus” and the documentary “Still,” about Michael J. Fox's Parkinson's disease.

It is also evident that former US President Barack Obama is a two-time Emmy Award winner. He won the documentary series “Work: What We Do All Day.” On the other hand, Michelle Obama left empty-handed. The “The Light We Carry” interview special with Oprah Winfrey lost out to a special on traveling to Italy by Stanley Tucci.
