Paris and Berlin want to strengthen relations with Warsaw

France and Germany want to revitalize trilateral cooperation with Poland in the “Weimar Triangle.” In light of the enlargement of the European Union, coordination between Paris, Berlin and Warsaw is of “extreme importance,” German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Green Party) said today during the inaugural visit of her new French colleague Stephane Segorn to Berlin.

France's top diplomat, who was appointed only on Thursday, announced that he will propose initiatives to strengthen the relationship between the three countries “once again” during his meeting with Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski in Warsaw tomorrow. This should relate, among other things, to the institutions of the European Union.

He reiterated his support for Ukraine

Segorn, who is close to French President Emmanuel Macron, was appointed as the new Minister of Foreign Affairs in a cabinet reshuffle. His first official trip abroad was a visit to Kiev at the weekend, where he stressed France's support for Ukraine, which was attacked by Russia.

In Berlin, Sigorn repeated this statement. The French Foreign Minister said: “We must support Ukraine as long as it is necessary.” Burbock pointed to the increasing Russian attacks in recent weeks. “It is extremely important that we continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine – this year and for as long as necessary until Russia withdraws,” the Foreign Secretary said.
