Visibility of the annual solar eclipse moves across the continental United States in a narrow swath from northwest to southeast. The maximum duration of an annual phase of five minutes and 17 seconds was reached in Panama.

For example, large parts of the US saw partial phases of darkness, although rain clouds blocked views of the sky in parts of the US East Coast. This phenomenon has not been observed in Europe. Another total solar eclipse has been announced for parts of North America in April 2024.
