2018 Big Hits Are On Netflix Not TV Screens!

2018 Big Hits Are On Netflix and Ott Platforms But Not On TV Screens. This is because, this year around 116 movies released in Hindi, 187 movies in Telugu and another 186 in Tamil but only 10% of those registered hits on big screens and rest were turned down by the audience. But there are huge hits on the OTT platforms such as Sacred Games, Mirzapur, Breathe, Inside Edge and Ghoul. They are not just ordinary hits but huge hits on Netflix, the paid OTT platform.

This year it is one of the big wonders for computer & mobile screens as they were the most watched content on the Internet. The OTT platforms are expanding their content in the regional languages as well.

We know that content is the king, and there many OTT platforms emerging with such content over years.

We have huge no. of apps such as Hungama Digital app/Ozee/Hotstar/Amazon Prime/Viu /Netflix/Sonyliv/YuppTv/ALT Balaji and many more…!

We are also seeing many big film stars, acting on these digital platforms. We have seen Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui in Sacred Games, Radhika Apte in Ghoul. We had R. Madhavan in Breathe, Ali Fazal and Pankaj Tripathi in Mirzapur.

There were also adaptions of award-winning literary works on the above platforms, we had Selection Day (Aravind Adiga’s Novel)in the form of a Web series.

The producers and directors say,  they have enough freedom to try more new/controversial/the experimental concepts in these platforms, which is not the case with films where censor board acts very rude towards certain content.

As per actress Ratna Pathak Shah, OTT platforms offer the great possibility of producing diverse entertainment content in India.

As per VIU CEO, local talent is gaining more recognition than before.

Seems like people those are not getting any film chances are making their dreams come true through these OTT content. Which is why lot’s of big entertainment players are making their entry into these platforms…!

Eg: Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Eros Now, Hotstar, Voot, Zee5, Viu, ALT Balaji, SonyLiv apart from Vimeo and Youtube are airing the premium content.

The digital medium has opened doors for creative people like never before, if you have a great content/concept with you, you can get into any of the above platforms.

But they all have to be cautious and pay some responsibility as most of the free time viewers on these apps are the young adolescent children.

Coming to the Internet speed, the advent of 4G services by Reliance Jio/Airtel 4G and availability of digital gadgets at cheaper prices under various e-commerce sites are also the main reason for the rapid increase in the above platforms.

If the reports are to be believed, Indian OTT market is said to reach Rs 3500 Crores/- by the year 2021. There will be no wonder if the whole TV content shifts its base to OTT in future.

More dying fact is that the future of OTT is going to be more local (regional languages). There are going to be separate apps for each segmented content.
