Content is king, but not the Khans, The quote seems to be true because this year many surprising hits are from the small films but not khan films. Be it Andhadhun, Badhaai Ho, Stree, Raid all were super hits whereas the Khan Trio’s Thugs of Hindostan, Zero, Race 3 that released with high expectations Fell Flat at the box-office.
Films like Padmavat/Sanju/2.0/Baaghi2/Raazi/Gold/Sony Ke Titu Ki Sweety did decent business and the recently released Simmba too is minting money at the box-office! Seeing all the above, one might ask, is the star led industry transforming towards content-based industry? Seems to be yes!
The genuine content is getting noticed on a high note. Filmmakers are investing huge amounts on scripts than on stars. This year truly belong to great concepts and scripts.

2018 has witnessed the new entertainers of which 15 movies has surpassed the Rs 100 Crore Benchmark. This way a business of Rs 3500 crore happened to Hindi cinema.
On the other hand, the Khan Trio starred movies managed to pull the audience to the theaters on Day 1,2 but fell flat from then. People have rejected the half cooked mediocre content outrightly.
Whereas movies like October/Hichki/Padman/Mukkabaaz were appreciated. According to the trade pundits, good content will make a star but not the otherwise.
Due to the high ticket prices, few people are not going to the above content based on small movies, had that been reduced it would be otherwise.
With the stiff competition from regional films, Hollywood, OTT platforms more and more fine-tuned content will only be accepted on Big screens from now, but this will bring in a more international audience as well as content to the Indians.
At the same time, large no. of writers/directors/actors and other technical talents will be welcomed in years to come and there will be films separately for the digital platforms like the Mowgli did on Netflix a few years back.
