For the last 5 years, ABVP has been winning the student elections of the Delhi University. This year, the outcome of the election is going to be massively important as BJP is facing ample pressure from all corners with issues like demonetisation, GST and others.
With General Elections scheduled in next year, BJP has a point to prove in Delhi. With the Congress resurgence and Arvind Kejriwal‘s presence, this is not going to be easy for the BJP.
But thankfully, the Delhi University Election is different from JNU. The tukde tukde bridgade hasn’t been successful in the campus and thus ABVP looks confident of another resounding victory.
As the University goes on to the polls the very next week, i.e. on 12th September, there are already parameters which are being discussed and manipulated all around.
Although it is a case of student election, the mainstream politics like BJP, Congress are very much involved in it. Sad but true that caste plays a major role in Delhi University Election.

The predominance of Jat and Gujjar communities is indeed very clear. Even in 2016-17, all the four posts of president, vice-president, secretary and joint-secretary were won by candidates from these constituencies.
Importantly enough, the All India Students’ Association is contesting the Delhi University polls in alliance with AAP’s student wing Chatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS).
The biggest truth about Delhi University Election is the involvement of money in it. No doubt, none of the parties basically recommendations of the Lyngdoh committee.
There are other parameters like rain dances, trips to amusement parks, free pizzas and others. Markedly non-involvement of women’s students in DU election is another important thing.
If ABVP loses the election, not only it would be a cause of concern for BJP but also an ultimatum. One may say that these elections are local in nature but from Delhi’s perspective, Delhi University Students’ Election will have ample significance.
