NRC Episode: With Another FIR, 5 Cases Registered In Assam Against Mamata Banerjee

With an another FIR Assam Police have registered total five cases in different police stations in the state against Mamata Banerjee- the West Bengal Chief Minister, for her provocative remarks on recently published draft National Register of Citizens (NRC) last week.

These five cases that have been registered in different parts of the state against Banerjee are – Pan Bazar police station in Guwahati, Geetanagar police station, Jagiroad police station in Morigaon district, Jorhat police station and North Lakhimpur police station in Lakhimpur.

In his FIR copy Dhrubajyti Talukdar, General Secretary of Assam Public Works said that in a press meet on 30/07/2018, at around 12 pm, West Bengal Chief Minister made at the various communal statement regarding the publication of the draft NRC. Through her statement, she tried to disturb the peace and stability in the state and tried to bring a chasm between Bengali and Assamese people in the name of NRC. All her statement were widely published in different media.

The FIR further said that eight-member delegates comprising several MLAs MPs that included Sukhendu Shekhar Roy, Nadimul Haque, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Ratna Dey Nag, Arpita Ghosh, Firhad Hakim, Mahua Moitra and Mamata Thakur landed in Silchar with an intention to aggravate the tense situation in the state. These leaders had no connection with the NRC process in Assam and they not only created a chaotic situation in the Airport but also injured three Police officers on duty.

Assam police constable Rubi Rani Das injured in the scuffle with the TMC delegates at Silchar airport on August 2 has also filed an FIR at a police station against seven delegates of these eight members team under sections 353, 323 and 338 of IPC.

The draft of NRC that was released on 30th July 2018 left out around 40 lakh people in Assam.
