Following heavy inflow from reservoirs in Karnataka in the Cauvery River into Biligundulu, the entry point where the waters enter Tamilnadu, a flood alert has been issued for the local population living along the bank sides and in low lying areas.

The inflow touched 80,000 to 90, 0000 cusecs on Monday morning following the dams in Karnataka brimming and water release is consistently improved.
Salem District collector Rohini R. Bhajibhakare issued the flood alert to the riverside villages and asked the authorities to evacuate the people to the higher planes.
“The people living in the stretch from Biligundulu to Mettur have been asked to the move to higher planes and arrangement have been made for the safety of their livestock,” the collector said.

“While the Disaster Management Team, at the Salem Collectorate, would keep a close watch on the flood situation the people are urged to call the helpline 1077 for any emergency,” the collector said.
The water level in the Mettur dam has been witnessing a steady increase due to bountiful rains in the catchment areas of Cauvery River.
While the water level at Mettur stood at 79.45 feet on Sunday morning, it rose steeply and touched 80.5 feet on Sunday evening, which is a good cause for cheer for Tamilnadu farmers.
When the storage level touches 90 feet the waters will be released from Mettur dam for irrigation by the Tamilnadu Government.
