After Delhi Archbishop, Now Goa’s Archbishop Says Constitution Of India In Danger

Father Filipe Neri Ferrao, Archbishop of Goa and Daman in his annual pastoral letter for 2018-19 has written that the Constitution of India is in danger, and most of the people are living in insecurity and the country is in the grip of monoculturalism

In the name of development people across the country are being uprooted from their land and homes. Human rights are being trampled and in recent times a new trend has emerged in the country which demands uniformity in every aspect of life be it – what you eat, dress, live and even worship, – kind of monoculturalism

The Archbishop has advised openly urged Catholics community in Goa to prepare for the elections and play an active role in the election. They should strengthen democracy of the country and help to improve the functioning of the state administration.

The fight against corruption and ideals of social justice are of utmost importance. Catholics population is the state account for over 25 percent of the state’s population of 1.5 million.

Last month Delhi Archbishop Anil Couto wrote in a letter that India is witnessing a turbulent political atmosphere. Ahead of the election, the community should begin a prayer campaign.

Couto’s remarks faced criticism from all over the country including from Home Minister Rajnath Singh

The letter further said that the first victim of development is the poor person. It is easier to trample upon the rights of the poor and very few people will raise their voice for them.

“Today, our Constitution is in danger (and that is) the reason why most of the people are living in insecurity. In this context, particularly as the general elections are fast approaching, we must strive to know our constitution better and work harder to protect it,” the letter read.
“In recent times, we see a new trend emerging in our country, which demands uniformity in what and how we eat, dress, live and even worship: a kind of monoculturalism. Human rights are under attack and democracy appears to be in peril,” it added. ANI Report

“Our parishes and small Christian communities ought to be immersed in this mission of the Church. They should be open to the problems of the world. This social concern should not only remain within the confines of the parish community but should reach out to the whole state and country at large,” Ferrao said in the letter ANI Report.

Parishes and small Christian communities should be involved in this mission of the Church. They should come forward to address the problem of the world. They should not remain within the confines of the parish community but should reach out to the whole state and country at large.

The Archbishop also expressed concern about malnutrition among children in the country.
