Miss Mamata Banerjee has been one of the most vocal political leaders in India. She has single-handedly led the agitation against the lumpen Communists for more than a decade. Not only that, She has never bowed down to any pressure even death threats as the leader of the opposition.

When TMC came to power in 2011 defeating the Communists after three and half decades of anarchy, the people of the state welcomed her as the chief minister of the state. Unfortunately, the next narrative is something is something which won’t make her proud.

The last 7 years have been a case of mixed baggage of people of West Bengal. The state has witnessed the implementation of populist policies in the state but at the same time, the TMC members have been absolutely ruthless in wiping out any sort of opposition in the state.

In the last four years, the candidates in most elections in South Bengal have been from TMC candidates and those TMC candidates who didn’t get tickets. The situation has worsened so much that BJP, the rising opposition in the state is virtually witnessing death threats.

In the recently concluded Panchayat Election, BJP has fared well in some pocket areas, which is too small in the context of the total number of seats in the state.

One such example is Purulia where people have voted for BJP. The repercussion of such election mandate has been horrendous for the supporters of BJP.

Right after the day of results, Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee announced that there won’t be any opposition in BJP. Coincidentally after that, two BJP workers have hanged to death in Balarampur in Purulia.

Most, unfortunately, the police even before conducting the routine autopsy referred the deaths as ‘suicides’. Purulia is now anticipating yet another political murder and thus it is something which is not too far from a political emergency.

Mamata Banerjee, who has championed minority appeasing secularism, who has crippled the state economy with populist politics to get sectoral votes, is absolutely silent on this. This year, prior to the Panchayat Elections West Bengal witnessed so many deaths where the opposition members were throttled to death.

What Mamata Banerjee and her government are doing today, is not very different from the Communists. On one hand, she is busy in trying to portray herself as a prime ministerial candidate for the Federal Front and on the other, she is playing the orchestra of political murders in the state.

The political history of Bengal has witnessed the downfall of the autocrats and the diminishing popularity of Mamata Banerjee is thus no exception. After all, when a state fails to take care of ‘Maa, Maati,Manus‘, the government virtually loses the authority to lead the state anymore.
