4 Years Of Telangana: The Unfulfilled Journey Of A New State Amidst Stereotypical Politics

4 Years Of Telangana, the 29th state of India has completed four years of its existence. The state came into existence after years of struggle and now there are questions whether the state has fulfilled the promises and aspirations of people which were expected or not. No doubt, within a greater urban fold, the state has ample possibilities of reaching a higher graph in all parameters of growth and development.

During the demarcation, there was a huge debate over the capital Hyderabad. Now, even in Telangana, Hyderabad has remained as a pivotal point for development. No doubt, this has both advantages and disadvantages for the state. Afterall, the civic infrastructure of Hyderabad is currently overstressed and this is indeed a cause of serious concern.

Interestingly, a major percentage of Telangana population comes from a backward section of the society. This automatically implies or deserves public policy addressing core issues which are directly and indirectly associated with people of the marginalized section of the society. The livestock base is still low and agriculture is yet to be tipped as the best option for the state.

The ever-increasing tribal population of the state calls for more social measures which can help to reduce social disparities. Most, unfortunately, the Adivasis and the lambadas are engaged in a tussle in the state which has been destructive for both.

The Mala-Madiga issue is still unresolved and the state desperately awaits financial inclusion in spite of all measures. Public Distribution System is still yet to reach the expected level and the Telangana youth definitely needs skill development which can be central to creating skilled manpower in the state.

There is no denying the fact that the industrial sector of the state has a lot to achieve. There is the surplus availability of labor in the state but not enough investments have been made to cater the needs of the state.

Importantly, the TRS government has a lot to do as the state still lags behind other states like Odisha, Chhatisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh in terms of literacy.

With higher malnutrition level and higher morbidity rate in rural areas, there is indeed a need to chalk a route map for the state. Otherwise, the new state will not be able to fulfill the dreams and aspirations of the people of Telangana.
