In a move to bring different verities in the e-catering service of the national transporter, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) have taken another new scheme.

Now railway passengers travelling in the trains will have the option to order local cuisines in the trains. IRCTC has decided to rope in several reputed as well as reliable aggregators in the field of catering. IRCTC along with service partner TRAPIGO to provide local cuisine to Indian Railways passengers. TRAPIGO is a delivery partner for food products.

It is to be noted that TRAPIGO is a startup launched by IIT-IIM and NIFT graduates. IRCTC said that they are capable of delivering hot as well as fresh food items from the reputed restaurants. IRCTC has opted for TRAPIGO. It has its own fleet of delivery boys in co-branded uniforms. 

Passengers travelling via train can place their food order through the official e-catering website of IRCTC or by IRCTC’s ‘Food-on-track’ app on their smartphones. The food ordered by passengers will be delivered by TRAPIGO hygiene packaging with co-branded stickers, tapes etc. The minimum cost of the food is Rs 15.

The new service has been introduced in Nagpur on trial basis but once it becomes successful it will expand into other regions of the country like – New Delhi, Jhansi, Itarsi, Bhopal and finally in rest of the countries.

The IRCTC further said that Shree Mahalakshmi Swayam Sahayata Bachat Ghat, a self-help group (SHG) empanelled with it under the e-catering project at Ratnagiri, famous for its export quality Alphonso mangoes has also shown interest in selling fresh and naturally ripened organic mangoes to the passengers. This is for the first time seasonal fruits will be available in a moving train.

Now passengers will have the option to order different varieties of food as per their choice. They will no longer require to take imposed dull and drub food in the trains.
