IPL Betting Scam: Bollywood Actor & Director Arbaaz Khan Summoned By Mumbai Police On 2nd June 2018

Bollywood actor and Salman Khan’s brother Arbaaz Khan has been summoned by the Maharashtra Police in IPL betting case on 2nd June 2018. The actor’s name reportedly came up when the police were interrogating a bookie, Sonu Jalan.

In a letter, the 50 years old actor, who is also a film producer, has been directed by the police to appear before the police for questioning over betting on Indian Premier League (IPL) and record his statements by the Thane Police.

The police are believed to be investigating allegations that Arbaz placed bets during the recent IPL season through Sonu Jalan. The Thane anti-extortion cell arrested Sonu Jalan from Kalyan on charges of betting, on last Tuesday. It is reported that Sonu Jalan had a diary with details of clients and bookies.

Sonu Jalan is said to run an international gambling racket stretching from India to the Middle East. He has the dubious distinction of associating with betting racking in 2008 IPL session.  He was even arrested at that time by police. He is also suspected to have associated with Karachi-based terrorist Dawood Ibrahim.

In IPL betting cases Mumbai police had also arrested another Bollywood personality Vindu Dara Singh in 2013 specifically spot-fixing. But later he was released on bail.

Ever since the inception of IPL session in 2008, this cash-rich cricket tournament has been mired in gambling controversies. In 2013 Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals were suspended for two seasons for involvement in spot-fixing scandal.  Bowler S Sreesanth, and Ankit Chavan and Ajit Chandila were banned for lifelong in match-fixing.
