Is Yogi Adityanath’s Leadership In Question After Bypoll Defeats?

Four back to back bypoll defeats in UP and controversy’s favourite child Yogi Adityanath is back in media limelight. Whether Hindutva’s post boy is losing the magic or not has become a serious question.

When Yogi Adityanath waa selected as the chief minister of UP, it was considered to be a massive decision within the BJP quarters. Many people even termed him as BJP’s prime ministerial candidate in 2024. Suddenly, with deteriorating law and order situation and opposition alliance, things have become tougher for him.

What went wrong in between?

Previously, when BJP lost in Gorakhpur and Phulpur, it was clearly evident that Dalits are not voting for BJP in UP. As SP and BSP came together, it became an uphill task for the saffron outfit to get election mandate in their favour. Yogi Adityanath has been accused of turning away from his ‘janta durbar’.

He has been campaigning for BJP in states like Tripura, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Karnataka. But as far as his own state is confirmed, he has been very unimpressive. Right from the incident of infants dying in government hospital or state police hitting women protestors in BHU – the Yogi Adityanath administration has received flak. He has not mastered the art of political persuasion and thus he has failed to outreach people.

In Indian politics, whoever party gets hold of UP, is expected to have edge in Lok Sabha polls. The way Yogi Adityanath is losing popularity or rather the grip in his state, he is definite not in a position to lead the saffron outfit in Lok Sabha Elections scheduled next year. And it won’t be an exaggeration to say that Varanasi is no more a safe seat for PM Narendra Modi next year.
