This Sikh Police Officer Turns Social Media Hero

On last Tuesday 22 May 2018, the officer, Gagandeep Singh, had responded to alerts about trouble in an area near a prominent temple in Ramnagar Uttarakhand. A group of Hindu assembled there and was attacking a Muslim boy after he was seen with his Hindu girlfriend.

In a video posted on social media, the Sikh police officer was seen saving a Muslim man from a possible lynch-mob. Thousands of people had shared the video clip on social media.

Ramnagar town is located near Jim Corbett national park. As per the report, pro-Hindu activists started interrupting the couple when the couple was spotted near the river bank. In the video, it was seen a young Muslim man was surrounded by an angry mob shouting slogan. The mob was trying to beat the youth and the Sikh police officer immediately shielded him

Through his body. Later on, the crowd chanted slogans against the police.

The clip has drawn lots of reactions on Twitter and Facebook. Many posts called the police officer as a real-life hero.

Immediately, the mob was dispersed and the couple was taken to a police station. They were sent back to their families. The boy was 24 years old and the girl was 18 years.

Police source reveals that five people whose faces are visible in the clip have been booked and a search is on to arrest them. The cop has been awarded Rs 2,500 for his bravery by his seniors.

IPS Association has congratulation the officer for his bravery. In a tweet, IPS Association said that they salute the courage, compassion and presence of mind of this young Police in saving a man from a lynch mob. He exemplifies the values that every police officer must cultivate.

The 28-year-old police Sub-inspector hails from Udham Singh Naga joined police in 2015.
