NCP Candidate Jonathone N Sangma Killed In Bomb Blast In Meghalaya

A contestant in the upcoming elections in Meghalaya from the National Congress Party (NCP) was killed in a blast along with three other persons on Sunday night. Jonathone N Sangma died in the blast caused by an Improved Explosive Device (IED) at East Garo Hills. Mr Sangma was traveling in his convoy after a campaign and returning to his residence.

The blast took place in a terrorist affected area. Jonathone N Sangma was traveling along with his personal security officer and two party workers. All these four people died in the blast.

Chief Minister of Meghalaya Mukul Sangma offered his condolences to the family of the deceased leader. He posted on Twitter, “Deeply saddened to hear about the unexpected loss of Jonathone N Sangma. My heartfelt condolences to his near and dear ones.

The blood of innocent spilled by the enemies of the state will not disturb peace in Meghalaya.” Working President of Meghalaya Congress Unit Vincent Pala condemned the incident and expressed condolences to the family of Sangma.

He said that such incidents shouldn’t take place in Meghalaya state. BJP expressed concern over this attack in the wake of elections in the state. The assembly elections in Meghalaya state are supposed to take place on February 27.
