In spite of being a regimented cohesive unit, the RSS has committed own-goals in the past which has not only embarrassed the party itself but also big brother BJP in the true sense of the term.

This time around, the Rss Chief Mohan Bhagwat while addressing the workers at Zila school ground on the last day of his six-day visit of Muzaffarpur has remarked that RSS has the ability to prepare an ‘army’ to fight for India within three days if needed.

This has already created much controversy in the public domain and the opposition parties have called for a public apology from the RSS Supremo for such reckless comment, which categorically undermines the ability of Jawans of Indian Army.

In his typical rhetorical tone, the RSS chief said, “Sangh will prepare military personnel within three days which the army would do in 6-7 months. This is our capability. Swayamsewak will be ready to take on the front if the country faces such a situation and Constitution permits to do so.”

There are various perspectives on this specific remark from the RSS Chief. First of all, NDA is at the helm of affairs in the central government and this remark highlights lack of flexibility or mobility in the Indian Army. Or in other words, the RSS Chief has indirectly taken a dig at the Narendra Modi government for a lacklustre approach to modernizing Indian forces.

Secondly, with this remark, the ability of the Indian Army is belittled and tagging with RSS, is indeed cheap and of no meaning.

Interestingly, the way RSS Chief has remarked that RSS workers are always happy ready to make supreme sacrifice for their country denounces the patriotism of Indian Army Jawans.

Thus it is extremely unprecedented and unfortunate to have a remark of such poor taste from a person of the calibre of Mohan Bhagwat. No doubt, remarks such as this will not help RSS in the days to come.
