The opposition parties do not seem to be much excited about the proposal of the ruling party to conduct Lok Sabha and assembly elections simultaneously. It is expected that the decision might go in the favor of the ruling party which has the potential to subdue anti-incumbency of the government.

One side there are certain challenges such as the different tenures of some of the state assemblies which have to cut short their term by few years if they plan to go with the Lok Sabha Elections. Further, the opposition is said to be more wary of the fact that BJP may benefit more with this decision.

BJP leaders said that the upcoming General elections are going to be a referendum on the rule of BJP Government so far. They stated that simultaneous elections may not have any effect on state election as seen in the example of Odisha where BJD succeeded in winning the election despite the Lok Sabha elections being tied with the assembly elections.

The opposition parties on the other side have the opinion that a simultaneous election would give PM Modi an opportunity to sideline the state level issues and gain the confidence of the people by focusing on the national level issues and the development achieved at the national level so far. It is in the hands of BJP to rise to the occasion now and conduct simultaneous elections for Lok Sabha and state Assemblies.
