Shashi Kapoor- Bollywood Lost Its Famous Lover Boy Hero

Shashi Kapoor is not just a popular name in our Film Industry. He is the popular brother of the great Legends like Raj Kapoor and Shammi Kapoor. He has carved a niche for himself to be called as a Legend himself. His father Privthiraj Kapoor always wanted his sons to be his real heirs to become big actors and also take his Prithvi Theatre group to International standards.

Shashi Kapoor, as the youngest of all three, took a major interest in the theatre following his father and he fell in love with the theatre like no one ever in Indian Cinema. He did all he could to construct Prithvi Theatre, in Mumbai and even signed as many films as he can, some say 100, to just be able to construct the theatre in Mumbai.

Even at the age of 70, when he was wheelchair bound completely and unable to identify people, his love for theatre is never lost. He used to be the first person to enter the theatre and last one to exit. He dedicated his earnings to develop the Theatre and make it a world-class facility for many budding actors to find their true love on stage. Many regards performing at the Prithvi Theatre as a life-changing experience.

He is the first chocolate boy hero who married Jennifer Kendal, his theatre partner early and slowly found success as the lead actor in Hindi cinema. He is not been as lucky as his other two brothers, Raj and Shammi as he could not adjust to mass pulse in Indian filmmaking. He couldn’t so flamboyant like Shammi Kapoor or restrainedly hyper like Raj. He also had the looks to blame for. He looked completely like a dashing gentleman from a foreign land than being a desi hero.

Still, he found great success as the lover boy in films like Satyam Shivam Sundaram and slowly transformed into an action hero in the multi-starrer era with Amitabh Bachchan. Their pair delivered the iconic Deewar scene, “Mere Pass Maa Hein” and many more blockbusters that we fondly remember. But his wife’s death in 1984, completely devastated him and one day or after, he lost control of his health and ended up wheelchair bound.

Amitabh Bachchan, Salim Khan, Ranbir Kapoor and many stars have attended to see the Dada Saheb Phalke Awardee for one last time as he decided to march for a divine abode to meet his love of life. We forward our condolences to all his fans and film fraternity.
