Abdul Karim Telgi Death Marks The End Of A ‘Corruption’ Era

Yesterday Abdul Karim Telgi, the main convict in multi-crore fake stamp racket passed away, who was recently put on a ventilator. Previously he was sentenced to 30 years of rigorous imprisonment. His death certainly marks an era, who had more than 27 cases filed against him.

In Maharashtra only, 12 cases were registered against him whereas 15 other cases were filed in other parts of the country. In more than 12 states, his fake stamp racket nexus had so many good contacts. 56-year-old Telgi was serving in Parappana Agrahara Central Jail in Bengaluru. Way back in 1991, he was put behind the bars by the Mumbai Police for cheating. In 1994 he procured machinery from Nashik Security Press. Anyhow, the whole Abdul Karim Telgi episode highlighted corruption within the inner administration.

There is no denying the fact that Abdul Karim Telgi developed underworld links with relative ease and close communication with Indian politicians. During the Congress regime, his fake stamp racket bloomed and he was able to deprive huge revenue to India. The multi-crore scam has truly zoomed into the reality and no doubt, Abdul Karim Telgi’s episode is a gentle reminder regarding what corruption can do to any country.
