BBC Journalist Arrested For Blackmailing Chhattisgarh Minister

A former BBC Journalist named Vinod Varma has been arrested by the Chhattisgarh Police for allegedly blackmailing a Chhattisgarh Minister with a sex CD. The accused was arrested from his residence in Ghaziabad. The arrest of the journalist has been confirmed by the police, but further details of the case are not being revealed by them. According to a senior police official, Vinod Varma was arrested from his Indirapuram residence and brought to police station. A complaint was filed against him in the Pandari Police station in Raipur and the case has been registered against him. It is said that Vinod Verma has a sex CD in his possession which involved a BJP Minister from Chhattisgarh state. Verma is said to have attempted to extort money from the minister on the pretext of releasing the sex tape.

Vinod Varma is a member of Editor’s Guild of India and writes on socio-economic and cultural issues related to Chhattisgarh state. According to the sources, Verma is said to have made a phone call last week to a close aide of a BJP leader and demand ransom for keeping the CD a secret. A team of Chhattisgarh Police started tracking the case and raided a shop in Delhi based on the inputs. They recovered a large number of CDs from the shop. The shopkeeper gave information about Verma during Interrogation following which the house of Verma in Indirapuram has been raided. Several CDs were found at Verma’s house too. His laptop and pen drive were confiscated by the police.
