Was Tipu Sultan A Mass Rapist?

Come November, Congress will be back in their minority propaganda with Tipu Sultan Jayanti in Karnataka. This will be the third consecutive year that the state-sponsored birthday celebrations of Tipu Sultan will reach a political height. No doubt, the main motto of Congress is to divert their inefficiency in governance to communal angle. BJP leaders in Karnataka are well aware of this whole reality.

They have already announced their boycott of the event. They have even categorically mentioned that they don’t want their names to be printed on the invitation cards for the celebrations. Union Minister Anant Kumar Hedge has directly referred Tipu Sultan as a ‘brutal killer’ and a ‘mass rapist’. He also tweeted, “Conveyed #KarnatakaGovt NOT to invite me to the shameful event of glorifying a person known as a brutal killer, wretched fanatic & mass rapist.”

There is no denying the fact that Tipu Sultan was a controversial figure. Although Indian history books mention his heroics against the British, somehow doesn’t showcase his atrocities against Hindus in his reign. He was never a statesman but a Muslim warrior who was more focused on keeping his reign free from British rather than safeguarding interests of the Hindus. Thus it is extremely inappropriate for the Congress government in Karnataka to celebrate Tipu Sultan Jayanti to gain cheap popularity and wooing the minority base in the state.
