How Much Would Call Of Duty Cost In Real Life? [INFOGRAPHIC]

Call of Duty is one of the most well know game franchises to exist. In fact, one single Call of Duty game brings in more sales than almost 4 Hollywood blockbusters! In under 1 day, Call of Duty players fires more shots than the entire US Army fires in one year! In fact, Call of Duty Players have played over 25 BILLION hours of the game, enough time to go back in history before humans had evolved!

Now I’m sure all of you are amazed at all these facts, but here is another one that you won’t believe. It is the real life cost of Call of Duty being played in the real world!

How Much Would COD Cost In Real Life?

To take that into account, the US annual GDP is $16.58 Trillion. This means COD would be twice as expensive as how much value the USA produces every single year!

If you still can’t put this into perspective, COD would cost over $38,000,000,000,000 a year!

So How Did I Get These Numbers?

Well, let’s start with a equipping a soldier. According to Seattle Pi, a soldier’s basic gear costs $17,500 with the cost expected to rise to $60,000 within the next decade. Add the

Add the $700 cost for the M4 Carbine, the most commonly used rifle in the US army and you get $18.2K just for basic equipment (on a conservative estimate).

Now we also need to train the soldier’s to fight. COD fighters have basic skill sets, yes even the noobs, that the general population does not have. For example, they can handle weapons, know how to throw grenades, know how to switch weapons, etc. The cost for training a U.S. Marine to do these tasks is

The cost for training a U.S. Marine, someone who can actually do these tasks mentioned above, is $50K.

Combine the two figures and you get a conservative estimate for equipping fighters at $68.2K per fighter.

Now let’s move onto the ammo. The M4 Carbine uses 5.56x45MM NATO ammo. For the US army, this costs $0.26 per round.

Given 88M rounds are shot every hour in COD, and you get $22.8M spent every hour on ammo alone. Of course, this is a very basic figure given we aren’t accounting for the changing guns and their more expensive ammunition requirements.

Next let’s go to gathering the fighters. According to Steamcharts, the all time peak for Black Ops 3 was 63,681 players playing at one time. I’m going to run with this number because a real life Call of Duty is likely to inspire all of these players to come join and play. Obviously, you can tinker with this number if you want.

Given what we know about costing $68,200 to play, and the fact that all of the players would likely die within the hour requiring all of them to respawn with new equipment in the next hour, it would cost $4.34 Billion per hour of real life COD!

So What’s The Total? The maths comes out to the following:$4.34 Billion for gathering fighters

[($4.34 Billion For Gathering Fighters Per Hour) + ($22.8 Million For Getting Ammo Per Hour)] * (24 Hours In A Day) * (365 Days In A Year) = $38,218,128,000,000 or $38.218 TRILLION Per year

But wait… You Forgot Scorestreaks!

Ah, the most fun part of Call of Duty (whether it be Black Ops, Modern Warfare, Advanced Warfare, or Infinitum) is the scorestreaks. Who doesn’t love calling in the a badass line of end game streaks to get the other team to rage quit?

But these streaks would also have costs in the real world. While I couldn’t find statistics for how often the streaks are used per hour, I can give you and idea of the cost for each scorestreak! I used the scorestreaks for black ops 3 in this case.

Taking into account each scorestreak is probably used at least 10 times per hour (this is VERY conservative) and we would get an additional $50 Billion cost per hour or $438 Trillion per year.

This Means Call Of Duty (Scorestreaks Included) Would Cost At Least $476 Trillion Per Year!

This is more than 6 times the GWP – the amount of value the world produces in an entire year! While the COD franchise is already more popular than Hollywood, the sheer destruction of the game is so expensive that the world would literally not be able to keep up!

You Can See How I Sourced The Price Of Every Scorestreak Below:

Since not every scorestreak actually exists, I tried to get as close of a representation of a real life product to the scorestreaks as possible.

  1. HC-XD – Pricing taken from UM4 Retriever Model tactical robot.
  2. UAV – Pricing taken from the UAV Reaper Drone.
  3. Care Package – Pricing of the C17A Plane required for care package drops.
  4. Counter UAV – Pricing of LLDR systems by Northrup Grumann.
  5. Dart – Pricing of Tomahawk Cruise Missle. (Note a $1B Destroyer Would be needed to launch the missiles)
  6. Guardian – Pricing of Active Denial System and the Humvee required to operate it.
  7. Lightning Strike – Pricing of F35 Lighting II plane required for a strike.
  8. Hellstorm – Pricing of 5 Tomahawk Cruise Missiles. (Note a $1B Destroyer Would be needed to launch the missiles)
