Acrobats Balance on Top of the Empire State Building, New York City, 1934

Acrobats performed a balancing act on a ledge of the Empire State Building in Manhattan on August 21, 1934. The fearless ‘Three Jacksons,’ acrobats Jarley Smith, Jewell Waddek, and Jimmy Kerrigan, performed this breathtaking routine on the world-famous skyscraper that became one of the era’s most legendary stunts.

First known as ‘The Three Zechos’ and then as ‘The Three Jacksons,’ they toured the country from 1932 to 1940 as an acrobatic trio, some of the time with the Ringling Brothers circus.

The stunt, performed 1,245 feet above Manhattan, had never been tried before and has not been tried since, according to officials at the Empire State Building.
