Star Wars: Rogue One reshoots – stop freaking out

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is going to go through some reshoots… and everyone needs to stop freaking out.

Earlier this week a story came out from an unnamed source that Rogue One was going in for reshoots because the film was a mess and test audiences hated it. As soon as I saw ‘test audiences’ I laughed and knew this report was full of it. Disney would never, ever put a Star Wars film before a test audience of average moviegoers. It simply isn’t going to happen.

That being said, the reshoots are real, but here’s the catch: They have been on the books for ages. It is par for the course for big budget films to go back in and do some reshoots and pick up shots because you find things worked differently than expected in the editing bay.

What is also somewhat true is the film is going to be changed slightly. According to The Hollywood Reporter Disney is a bit concerned with how dark the tone of the film turned out. Fareth Edwards had stated that this was a war movie, and apparently with that mind it went a bit darker than other Star Wars films. This is actually not the hardest thing in the world to fix as it can be corrected with a sight gag or two, an added smile here or there and so on. However, people seem to think the film has to be gutted.

Nope.

It has amazed me this week how “reshoot” has been turned into “the film is a mess.” In some cases, yes, it is true reshoots have to do with fixing a mess, but these days they are just standard operating procedure and are included ina ctor contracts from day one.

Personally I wanted a darker film, but that’s life and I’ll still end up seeing this.
