There is a problem in the world of movies: Measuring everything in dollars.

Avengers: Endgame ended the weekend displacing Titanic as the seconnd highest grossing movie of all time. But here’s the problem with that, due to inflation, Titanic has about another billion on it already due to the 22 years that have passed.

For a long time I’ve felt like the true measure should be in the number of tickets sold, but that doesn’t sound as sexy to say. “This movie made $2.1 billion!” compared to “This movie sold 100 million tickets!”

People care about the dollars of it all, and that just doesn’t work when measuring a movie from over two decades ago.

And I’m not trying to take away anything from Endgame’s success, I just think it’s the fairer way to measure.
