Star Wars films to take a hiatus

It seems that Disney has finally realized that even Star Wars fans need a break from time to time.

Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed this week that Star Wars Films will be taking a hiatus following the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

We have not announced any specific plans for movies thereafter. There are movies in development, but we have not announced them…We will take a pause, some time, and reset…Because the Skywalker saga comes to an end with this ninth movie. There will be other Stars Wars movies, but there will be a bit of a hiatus.

With multiple series heading to Disney+, Disney parks getting themed areas, new video games on the way, and so on, I’m all for the idea of the movies taking a break. They will be back for sure, but this will allow the films in development currently to have a bit more breathing room and give them that much more time to nail down what it is they are trying to do with them.

Good on Disney for recognizing this break was needed, you have plenty of other ways to get money out of us for now. Don’t worry, we’ll always be here… waiting for more Star Wars.
