I have to admit, I really never gave Luke Perry much thought until the past few years. I never actively disliked him or anything, I was just not the right age for Beverly Hills 90210. I can honestly say I have never seen anything of that series other than commercials.
He was fine in the film version of Buffy, the Vampire Slayer. And I’ve seen him here or there over the years. Where I really encountered him was as Fred Andrews on Riverdale, and it made me really take notice of him. He brought so much subtlety to a role that someone could have just phoned in that you had to respect the work.
And then I saw a tweet from the creator of Riverdale.
So heartbroken about Luke. He was a father, brother, friend, and mentor. Each night before he had to shoot a scene, he’d call me and we’d talk about…everything. I will miss those calls. And my heart goes out to all his family and friends. ? pic.twitter.com/2GaFkV2mI7

Now, seeing all of the love pouring out for him from far and wide, it makes me feel like I really missed something. I feel like i need to go back and look at his work and appreciate it more.
But for today, Rest in Peace, Mr. Perry.
