The Greatest Showman may not be the best movie ever, but it was certainly entertaining. And now it looks as though Greatest Showman 2 is on the way.

Director Michael Gracey recently spoke with The Sun and said, “When a movie becomes as big a success as this, it’s only natural there is demand for a sequel. So those discussions have started and we are working on one right now.”

Let’s be very clear here, The Sun has been known to be less than reliable, but that does seem like a pretty straightforward quote. Considering it grossed $435M off of a $84M budget, a sequel is not all that surprising. Of course, the question is where this story would go. The story was pretty clearly wrapped up in the first film.

I have to say, I watched the first film and found the story less than impressive. But the music was catchy and there is no question it was beautifully shot. It has become one of my favorite, “I need something playing in the background” films as of late.

But even at that, they’re going to have to work hard to come up with an idea for a second film to be sure.
