The Netflix revival of Gilmore Girls is adding cast members faster than most people can keep up.

Gilmore Girls has added some major players from the past this week with the announcements of Milo Ventimiglia (Jess) and Jared Padalecki (Dean). Some of the minor “townies” have also come onboard with Michael Winters (Taylor), Emily Kuroda (Mrs. Kim) Rose Abdoo (Gypsy), Sally Struthers (Babette) and Liz Torres (Miss Patty). Even the Yale years have seen some additions in Tanc Sade (Finn), Mike Gandolfi (Andrew) and Danny Strong (Doyle). One of the bigger additions is Dadic Sutcliffe (Christopher) will return as Rory’s dad, so expect some family drama.

One new cast member has been announced. Sutton Foster worked with the Palladino’s on Bunheads, but no announcement has been made to whom she will be playing.

I have two issues with the number of cast returning. First off, there is no way they can service this many characters in what will amount to six hours. I have a feeling a lot of these characters will be “blink and miss them” shots. So I wouldn’t get too attached to some big story for each. I actually suspect a lot of these could be in one town meeting scene and then out.

The second issue… the absence of Melissa McCarthy is becoming glaring. Sookie was a major character, and with folks such as Andrew and Gypsy (no offense to the actors) being added, the missing major player is a bit glaring. True she has moved on to a heck a career, but even one scene would be a nice nod.

Here is the current list. Not all of these have been made completely official by Netflix as of yet, but the actors are tweeting and sharing photos constantly, so it’s pretty close.

I just restarted the series on Netflix, and being nine episodes in, it’s even better than I remember. Bring on this reunion!
