Carrie Fisher will not appear in Star Wars Episode IX

As Star Wars Celebration continues, it has been confirmed that Carrie Fisher will not appear in Star Wars Episode IX.

Fans are still basking in the glow of the Star Wars The Last Jedi trailer, but the passing of Carrie Fisher has loomed large the past few days as the franchise marches forward. Recently Fisher’s brother, Todd Fisher, had given a quote to The New York Daily News that her daughter, Billie Lourd, had given permission for unused footage to be repurposed for Episode IX.

It appears now that either he was incorrect, or plans have changed. Speaking to ABC News, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said, “Sadly, Carrie will not be in nine. But we will see a lot of Carrie in eight.”

Honestly, I think this is the way to go. Yes, there will be difficulty writing her out considering her importance to the saga, but at the same time fans would know that they are seeing footage that had been shoehorned in just to make her appear.

It will be rough closing out the new trilogy without her, but it feels like the right thing to do.
