Blackout caused no deaths– Muhimbili

THE management of Muhimbili National Hospital has refuted reports that five Infants died at midnight on February 27 this year following Power Cut. The statement issued today by the hospital’s head of Relations Unit Aminiel Aligaesha said the reports by a daily tabloid were unfounded and untrue.

The daily tabloid ran the story today that five infants including two infants who were born prematurely died on the said day after a power cut and a delay to start standby generators.

“There’re no machines which use electricity in a ward which accommodated the premature infants. There’s no child who died due to the power cut as alleged by the newspaper,” read part of the statement.

However, Aligaesha admitted that there was a power cut on that night and Tanesco restored it on February 28 around 1.30pm. “The hospital has six standby generators and they were all switched on during that night until today (February 28) at 9.00 in the morning.” The statement said.
